Web Page Guidelines

Protocol/Responsibility
  • Each school is responsible for the development and updates of their pages.
  • The Technology Department will offer training and support for designated staff members.
  • A listing of the e-mail address and phone number for each staff member will be posted and updated by the Technology Department. Schools will link to this page.
  • Each page should contain the date for the last update.
  • Each school is responsible for acquiring permission from parents before posting a student’s name, picture, art, written work, voice, verbal statements or video.
  • Names will not appear with student’s pictures.
  • All web pages on the Louisa County Public Schools’ web server are the property of the school district.

General Requirements
  • Pages that contain time-sensitive information, such as calendars, events, staff information, must be updated monthly to insure current, accurate information.
  • Web pages should be checked monthly to make sure that links work and graphics load.
  • All web pages will have a title (this appears in the title bar of the browser).
  • Each school’s main homepage should include the school’s name, address, phone number, and a link back to the school district’s main site.
  • The web pages hosted by Louisa County Public School are for educational purposes only.
  • All web pages hosted by the school should not contain information that is in violation of the district’s computer acceptable use policy, local, state, or federal regulation or law.
  • Unauthorized use of copyrighted material is prohibited.
  • Personal information (home address & phone numbers) for staff and students will not be posted.
  • Links to staff, volunteer or student personal home pages are not allowed. Links to educational sites maintained by staff will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Web masters have the authority to remove pages with questionable content until the school’s administration reviews the page and approves it.


Content Standards
  • All web pages must be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Web pages must not contain objectionable material or link directly to objectionable material as specified in the Louisa County Public Schools Acceptable Computer System Use Policy and Regulation.
  • A teacher sponsor is responsible for proof reading a student’s web pages prior to submitting them for posting.
  • Pages will not contain student e-mail addresses.
  • All links must point to meaningful and appropriate educational sites.

Technical Standards
  • Web pages and supporting files should fit on a floppy disk. Larger web pages can be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Incomplete web pages will not be posted.
  • Pages should be designed for an 800 by 600 screen resolution with no scroll bars at the bottom of the screen
    • If the web page is intended for printing then it should be sized at 560 pixels
  • Pages should load quickly and easily. The use of images and animations should be kept to a minimum to insure that pages load completely.
  • A file structure should be in place to separate all web pages.
  • All images should be located in a separate folder named images
  • The main page should be named index.htm or index.html.
  • All pages should be named in lower-case letters with words separated by the underscore (_).
  • File names should be eight (8) characters or less.
  • Alt tags will be use with all images.
